Xue Rengui Came Home

　　太宗皇帝親征高句麗，凱旋歸來後晉封薛仁貴為平遼王，並御賜在故鄉建造王府，王府落成後地方官吏、士紳名流都來道賀。

　　Emperor Taizong personally conquered Goguryeo. After returning triumphantly, he named Xue Rengui the King of Pingliao and gave him the construction of a palace in his hometown. After the palace was completed, local officials, gentry and celebrities came to congratulate him.

　　薛仁貴在賀卡中，看見伯父薛雄的卡片，立即要家丁把薛雄送來的禮物全退回去。原來早年薛仁貴落魄時，曾找薛雄濟助，薛雄不但不給予幫助，還把他奚落了一頓。

　　Xue Rengui saw his uncle Xue Xiong's card in those greeting cards, and immediately asked his servant to return all the gifts Xue Xiong sent. It turned out that when Xue Rengui was in despair in his early years, he had asked Xue Xiong for help. Xue Xiong not only refused to give him help, but also ridiculed him.

　　薛雄的賀禮被退後，準備了三千兩銀子親自到王府要向侄兒薛仁貴道賀。薛仁貴氣得要把薛雄趕出去，他的好友兼管家王茂生即時跪下說：「兄弟王爺請別動肝火，這樣做，讓不知底細的局外人看在眼裡，不會說閒話嗎？晉爵封王當了大官，連自己的宗親伯父都不認了，這話一傳開，有損兄弟清譽，請兄弟三思。」語畢薛仁貴趕緊扶起王茂生，同時親自到門前迎接伯父。

　　Xue Xiong's gift was retreated, and he prepared three thousand taels of silver to go to the palace in person to congratulate his nephew Xue Rengui. Xue Rengui was so angry that he wanted to drive Xue Xiong out. His friend and housekeeper Wang Maosheng knelt down immediately and said: "Brother Lord, please don't get angry. If you let outsiders who don't know the details see this, won't they gossiping? They will say that after you were made king, you did not respect your uncle of your clan. Once this spreads, it will damage your reputation. Please think twice." After hearing what he said, Xue Rengui hurriedly helped Wang Maosheng up, and at the same time went to the door to meet his uncle in person.

💛史實考證補充：

　　正史上的薛仁貴一生不曾封王，他一生最大的成就和功績，是在唐高宗時，既征西又征東的成為獨當一面的大將軍。薛仁貴病逝後朝廷追贈「左驍衛大將軍、幽州都督」，還特別製造靈輿，護送遺體歸還故里。
